Why do I need Form 1095-A?
Form 1095-A contains the amount of APTC paid by the government to your health plan to reduce your monthly premium. The amount of APTC is based on your reported estimated annual income on your health insurance application. When filing a tax return, because you are reporting your actual annual income, you will be calculating how this premium tax credit compares to the amount of APTC you were eligible for.

- If your actual income for the year was lower than what you estimated, you are eligible for a larger premium tax credit and can claim this difference as a refund.
- If your actual income for the year was higher than what you estimated, you are eligible for less premium tax credit and might have to pay back some or all of the difference.
